Pensioners day out in Popovo

Posted on 21 November 2014

We got invited to the pensioners club meal, a bit strange as we are no where near pensionable age but what was there to lose. 7 of us piled into a car and arrived in Popovo for lunch and an afternoon of singing and dancing.

There was wine supplied with the meal but pretty soon carrier bags were opened and an extra supply of  home made rakia, wine and some unknown alcoholic drink that we think was made from cabbages that tasted amazing, were added to the table.

It took a bit of encouragement from our friends and a few drinks, but in the end we both joined in with the traditional Bulgarian dancing and for some strange reason they also played a few Boney M songs. We were also honoured by a Bulgarian Man singing a song just for us expats which was very touching even though we have no idea what it was about but the rest of the pensioners seemed really impressed.

All in all a very enjoyable afternoon with friends.
