After two and a half months without a functioning bathroom, our new bathroom is finally open for business! The shower has been put back in, and we have the hot water boiler renovated and working. Most of the tiling and the majority of the painting and plastering is done.
The trencher idea didn’t work out as it developed a huge split in it while it was being renovated, so we’ve gone with a metal trough we found instead.
Work still to do is plumbing the sink in, finishing wiring up the lighting and tiling the shower floor.
Here are some before-and-after photos, and some photos of restored items!
The project has taken longer than we’d anticipated, mainly due to the weather getting really cold sooner than we’d anticipated. We’ve learned a lot in the process, which was part of the point of starting with the bathroom. Much of the work is not up to “professional” standards, but we’re very happy with it, and we’ve done it all ourselves, which is its own reward.
Julie and I have worked well together during this project. We both have our strengths and weaknesses, and have managed to resolve our disagreements amicably 🙂
A few bits to finish, then off to make a start on the kitchen when the warmer weather arrives, which will be a much bigger project!
Looking fabulous well done you two xx
I think it looks fantastic! Unique, imaginative, colourful, artistic. I love the light fixed to the ladder. Alan & I are really impressed. Is there heating in the bathroom? Well done to you both.
🙂 Thanks Mum. The heating is just with an oil-filled radiator, which will do for most weather. If it gets really, really cold we would probably abandon the bathroom for a couple of weeks, but we’ll see how it goes. It’s all well insulated, so it should stay warm in the winter.
Hand crafted mosaic good on you, most people here would go and buy a ready made strip !!
I really like the colors of the tiles. It really looks nice.
Congratulations !! It is beautiful !!
don’t know anything about plumbing and electricals but so impressed that Joe just seems to turn his hand to anything …. l do know about tiles and mosaics…… what a fantastic team you are! Meanwhile back in Cumbria… it snowed quite heavily(for Penrith) last Wednesday and the residue still lingers in pockets. On Saturday,at the Salvation Army, the environmental group +community gardeners hosted the 3rd stone soup day and over 120 people attended for free soup etc. l made coriander and carrot soup, bulking it out with potato and onion, plus apple which gave a hint of sweetness. xCarol
