My work in the bathroom is now complete apart from touching up around where the chimney goes through the roof but I can’t do that till the leak in the roof has been fixed. So while Joe finishes off the plumbing and the electrics I’ve decided to start on the kitchen.
The first step was to move everything out of the kitchen and set up a temporary one in the hallway. Some furniture out of the hall way has been emptied and now resides in the barn to make room, along with some of the cupboards out of the kitchen.
The plaster in the bathroom was a pain to remove and took ages so I thought it would be the same in the kitchen but instead it came off in large chunks so after one day I now have 2 walls done. There were 2 patches of wall that had been not very well bricked up, the whole section moved so I left those for Joe to have a look at. I didn’t want to be left with 2 huge holes in the wall, ok in the summer but not in the winter with snow on the ground. But we got a pleasant surprise, they weren’t bricked up windows, they are 2 rather nice alcoves and although our plans for the kitchen need changed slightly we are going to keep them.
The next few days will be spent removing the tiles, the cement holding them on to the wall is reinforced with wire stretched between nails that have been hammered into the wall so that is going to slow me down a bit. Then the ceiling needs to come down, hopefully Joe will be finished in the bathroom by then and he can have the pleasure of doing that, rats nests and all 🙂
