Day 4 Byala to Palamartsa

Posted on 05 September 201305 July 2014

After a very uncomfortable night in the car at the truck-stop we went to Polsko Kosovo to quiz Sue, our next unsuspecting ex-pat, on life in Bulgaria, where we saw the biggest grapes I had ever seen!!

After some lovely home-made cake and plenty of coffee we  headed to Palamartsa. By this time we really needed a bit of comfort and a shower so decided to abandon the tent for the night and chose to stay at the Wild Thyme guest house run by British couple Chris and Claire.

It turned out whilst chatting to them we have a mutual friend in the UK; talk about it being a small world. Chris and Claire were most welcoming and made us feel right at home. After settling in we cooked ourselves a meal, the ingredients coming straight from their garden, which was a nice change from bread and salads that we’d been living off.

The Wild Thyme guesthouse is a lovely place to visit, and they’ve done a fantastic job of renovating this old building, complete with composting toilets and solar powered showers. We got a chance to see lots of the ideas we’d been having about our own life in Bulgaria, put into action.

Sitting on the balcony, watching the sun go down with a beer was the first time we got a glimpse of what life in Bulgaria could be like, and we loved it. This was probably the first time we had really had time to just chill out and relax and that night even the crickets didn’t disturb my sleep 🙂
