Having moved into our new house our first task is to decide how we are going to tackle this project. It’s likely to be the work of a lifetime, but we do need some kind of plan as to what our priorities are, and how we are going to do them.
Our first priority is to empty the house of all the stuff in it, decide what we want to keep, clean it all and put it back, along with our own belongings. Then to get rid of what we don’t want.
Our second priority is toilet facilities. Nuff said!
With it being quite late in the year, our third priority is to get the house ready for winter. Winters are harsh here, sometimes getting down to as low as -30ºC, so we are going to need lots of wood for fires, draftproofing, and repairs to windows and doors to get ready for a cold winter. The roof also needs a little work to repair ridge tiles, but this is not urgent.
We have decided to leave any major work on the house until next year, when we will have a better idea of how the house will work for us, and what actually needs doing, and what we would like done.
The garden will need some preparation to get it ready for next year’s planting, and some organisation so we know where we are going to put things like fruit trees and bushes, and cane fruits. These things will be harder to move later on, so need to be carefully planned.
what an honest community you live in …. seeing the house, was very surprised to see the contents from the prvious owner still intact …. how reassuring … raining here in Penrith slightly but still warm xxCarol
