Had to dispatch my first chicken today. It was not a pleasant task, and I didn’t manage to do it very cleanly. I’ll see if I can find better ways of stunning the bird first, so I can cut its head off without it struggling 🙁

Have you tried the broomstick method. Not a method I use but seems to have a lot of ‘followers’

Not tried that one, but I can guess how it goes!

Someone I know has to dispatch a large number of fowl at Christmas time and he uses an upturned traffic cone shape. They go in head first, can’t flap their wings and says it is quick and less frightening for them? I don’t envy you Joe, but I know it has to be done.

Yes Sally, that seems to be the preferred method for a lot of people. I’m tempted to try it if I can find some road works near here 😉
