We now have a better house

Posted on 06 August 2017

It’s been 3 years since we bought our house and started our new life in Bulgaria, it’s very easy to look at all the work there is still to do and we don’t often look at what we have all ready accomplished. So to celebrate our 3 year anniversary we have decided to take some new photos of the parts of the house we have worked on, and compare them with how the house looked when we bought it.

The Bathroom

This was our first project that kept us busy through to March 2015, our current bathroom is made up from 3 smaller rooms that were the laundry / sink room. the shower and a preserves room.

Kitchen

Our next  project was the kitchen, this proved to be a major undertaking and kept us occupied from March 2015 to March 2016.

Outside construction

2016 was the year we decided to connect the bathroom to the rest of the house by building a walkway between the two, this is still a work in progress and probably won’t be completed this year because our 2017 project has taken priority.

The project for 2017 has been building a workshop so all the tools and wood can be removed from the house and hopefully I can keep the house a bit cleaner and tidier. We decided to build the workshop inside one of our barns.

Garden

As well as the building projects we have also raised 4 pigs ( now in the freezer ) 15 ducks ( 9 in the freezer ) got chickens for eggs, 3 bee hives, 2 dogs and 3 cats and are managing to grow all our own fruit and vegetables.

You appear to have very spacious accommodation…..well done for all your hard work. What’s the geology like underfoot?

A lot more spacious than we had in Carlisle :-). Not really looked into the geology of the area, all I can say is we have red and grey clay on top of Cretaceous lime stone which isn’t very fossiliferous, only managed to find a couple of small ammonites and evidence of crinoids

Congratulations on all the progress you’ve made! It’s hard to believe it’s already been 3 years.
